I have to agree with Chuck, that many agents do a poor job. And most FSBO sellers do a terrible job. They don't take the time to get educated on the selling process and don't know what they are doing. FSBO isn't brain surgery, but to sell successfully, you have to expect do to learn a few things and do some work. To do ANYTHING successfully you have to expect to do some work! There are three professions that are guilty of costing consumers a lot of money: lawyers, real estate agents, and financial advisers. (I’ve been all three.) I practiced law for 20 years, and now I'm loving life as a Realtor and Broker, but frankly, one of my pet peeves is how incompetent many agents are around the country. My joke is that an awful lot of housewives got their real estate licenses. Men too. A lot of men who got fired from their last job and couldn't decide what to do, got their licenses. So a person who spends their life becoming a professonal real estate expert ends up being classified with a lot of the . . . shall we just say less than compentent individuals. This is why being a FSBO is a viable alternative, unless you can find a true professional Realtor, but good luck on that (unless you live near me--my effort at humor).
